One monitor: a Work and a Play setup, one key each
You do not need a second screen to want two different desks. Here is how to switch your windows, your sound and your desktop together, with one key.
What Windows gives you
Windows has snap layouts (Win + Z) and virtual desktops (Win + Ctrl + D, then Win + Ctrl + Left / Right). They are a good start, but switching a desktop does not switch your sound, does not open the programs that belong there, and a snap layout is gone the moment one window closes.
Desks: one key for the whole setup
In Stillward Display, a desk is a named arrangement with a key of its own. Pressing it can:
- put every window back where it belongs on this desk;
- switch your sound - speakers for work, headphones for play;
- take you to the Windows virtual desktop that goes with it.
Make a “Work” desk and a “Play” desk, give each a key, and switching is one press.
Three more keys that help on one screen
- Split with one key. One key opens your editor, a web page and your chat and splits the screen between them. Press it again, and everything goes back.
- Focus mode. One key hides everything except the window you are using; the same key brings it all back.
- See-through panel. One key over any window: make it see-through, quieter, or send its sound elsewhere - handy for a guide or a video over your work.
On a laptop
A desk can belong to a set of monitors. Unplug the laptop from the dock, and the laptop's own layout appears; plug it back in, and the full desk returns - without pressing anything.
